About the Visual Resource Center and Collection
The Visual Resource Center is part of the Department of Art and Art History of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA., and home to the department's Visual Resource Collection.
An essential part of the Art & Art History Department, the Visual Resource Collection provides both faculty and students with a vast source of visual imagery/information for teaching, study, and research. The collection includes over 120,000 mounted slides spanning the history of art and architecture, from prehistoric times to the present, and in all representational mediums. The collection also includes a growing selection of digital images, books, catalogs, and periodicals.
The Visual Resource Collection is under the direction of a full-time Curator. Student Assistants are hired each year to help with a variety of services that include assisting faculty and other students, as well as photographing images, mounting negatives, entering data into a searchable database, and research. The department is also in the beginning stages of developing a digital image collection specific to Art and Art History faculty needs, and students will also be involved with capturing images with a flatbed and slide scanners or digital camera.
Note: The Visual Resource Collection was developed for the specific needs of the Art and Art History faculty, but students and faculty from other departments who wish to use imagery in their presentations are encouraged use the collection, but must be assisted by the Curator.
